Understanding Vulnerable Sections

1.Definition: Vulnerable sections of society include individuals or groups at a higher risk of socio-economic exclusion, marginalization, and lack of access to resources and opportunities.

2.Examples of Vulnerable Groups in India

i.Economically Disadvantaged: BPL families, landless labourers, urban poor.

ii.Socially Marginalized: Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC).

iii.Special Groups: Women, children, elderly, differently-abled, transgender persons.
