DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS
The concept of ‘life without rights’ is unsettling because rights are fundamental to human dignity, freedom, and development. In societies where rights are not recognised or protected, individuals often face severe limitations on their ability to lead fulfilling lives. Here are some of the implications of living in a society without rights:
1.Authoritarian Rule: Without rights, there’s nothing to stop governments from exerting complete control over their citizens, leading to authoritarian or totalitarian regimes.
2.Lack Of Accountability: The absence of rights usually means a lack of mechanisms to hold government officials accountable for their actions.
3.No Political Freedom: The freedom to express one’s views, assemble peacefully, and participate in the political process would be non-existent or severely curtailed.
1.Inequality And Discrimination: Without legal rights, marginalised groups could face unchecked discrimination and have limited avenues for redress.
2.Social Instability: When people feel oppressed and without recourse, social unrest is more likely, potentially leading to violent upheaval.
