Geographically, India lies entirely within the Northern Hemisphere.

The mainland of India stretches from latitudes 8°4'N to 37°6'N and longitudes 68°7'E to 97°25'E.

An important latitudinal line, the Tropic of Cancer (23° 30'N), bisects the country approximately into two equal halves.

India also encompasses two major island groups: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands to the southeast and the Lakshadweep islands to the southwest. These islands lie in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea respectively

Covering an area of 3.28 million square kilometres, India ranks as the seventh-largest country globally in terms of landmass.

This area represents about 2.4% of the world’s total geographical space.
