INDIA: SIZE AND LOCATION
Geographically, India lies entirely within the Northern Hemisphere.
The mainland of India stretches from latitudes 8°4'N to 37°6'N and longitudes 68°7'E to 97°25'E.
An important latitudinal line, the Tropic of Cancer (23° 30'N), bisects the country approximately into two equal halves.
India also encompasses two major island groups: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands to the southeast and the Lakshadweep islands to the southwest. These islands lie in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea respectively
Covering an area of 3.28 million square kilometres, India ranks as the seventh-largest country globally in terms of landmass.
This area represents about 2.4% of the world’s total geographical space.
