COAL AND PETROLEUM

Natural Resources

Natural resources are materials or substances that occur in nature and can be used for economic gain or to sustain life. They are essential for human survival and the development of societies. These resources can be broadly classified into two kinds based on their availability and likelihood of depletion: inexhaustible natural resources and exhaustible natural resources. Exhaustible natural resources like coal, petroleum and natural gas. These were formed from the dead remains of living organisms (fossils). So, these are all known as fossil fuels.

Inexhaustible Natural Resources

Definition and Characteristics

1.Unlimited Supply: Inexhaustible natural resources are available in abundant quantities and are not depleted by human consumption.

2.Sustainable: These resources regenerate naturally and are continuously available, making them sustainable over the long term.

Examples

1.Sunlight: The sun provides an unlimited source of energy that can be harnessed for solar power. It is an inexhaustible resource because the sun will continue to shine for billions of years.

2.Air: The atmosphere contains an abundant supply of air, which is essential for life. Air is constantly regenerated through natural processes such as photosynthesis and respiration.
