RESPIRATION IN ORGANISMS

Why Do We Respire?

Importance of Respiration

1.Cell Function: All organisms are made of cells, the smallest structural and functional units. Cells perform functions like nutrition, transport, excretion, and reproduction, which require energy.

2.Energy Source: Energy comes from food, which is released during respiration. This is why regular eating is essential.

Breathing and Cellular Respiration

1.Breathing: We breathe in air, which contains oxygen, and breathe out air rich in carbon dioxide.

2.Oxygen Transport: The inhaled oxygen is transported to all parts of the body and to each cell.

3.Cellular Respiration: In the cells, oxygen helps break down food (glucose) into carbon dioxide and water, releasing energy. This process is called cellular respiration and occurs in all organisms.
