REPRODUCTION IN PLANTS

Modes of Reproduction in Plants

Plants reproduce to produce offspring and continue their species. This can occur through two main types of reproduction: asexual and sexual.

Asexual Reproduction

1.Definition: New plants are produced without the formation of seeds.

2.Vegetative Propagation: A form of asexual reproduction where new plants grow from the vegetative parts of the plant such as roots, stems, leaves, and buds.

Methods of Vegetative Propagation

Cutting

Process: A branch with a node is cut and planted in the soil. This cutting will develop roots and grow into a new plant.

Example: Rose or champa plant.
