HEAT
1.Purpose: A clinical thermometer is used to measure human body temperature.
2.Structure: It consists of a long, narrow, uniform glass tube with a bulb at one end containing mercury.
3.Mercury Thread: A small shining thread of mercury can be seen outside the bulb. Rotate the thermometer slightly to see the mercury thread if it's not visible.
4.Scale: The thermometer uses the Celsius scale (°C) and reads temperatures from 35°C to 42°C.
1.Temperature Difference: Note the temperature difference between the two bigger marks and the number of smaller divisions between these marks. For instance, if the bigger marks read one degree and there are five divisions between them, each small division reads 0.2°C.
2.Preparation: Wash the thermometer, preferably with an antiseptic solution. Hold it firmly and give it a few jerks to bring the mercury level below 35°C.
