The Indian ‘Constitution’ is the supreme law of the land, and it champions the cause of equality. This ensures that every citizen, irrespective of their gender, religion, caste, or socioeconomic background, is treated as an equal in the eyes of the law.
While the Constitution upholds the principle of equality, societal practices and prejudices can sometimes overshadow this ideal. Historical disparities, especially those stemming from the caste system and gender biases, haven’t vanished overnight. They persist, even if now they are constitutionally and legally untenable.
