RURAL LIVELIHOODS

AGRICULTURAL LABOURERS AND FARMERS IN INDIA

Agricultural labourers and farmers form the backbone of India’s primary sector.

Agricultural Labourers

These are individuals who work on another person’s land in exchange for wages in cash or kind.

They do not own the land they cultivate.

Their income is often unstable, as it depends on the demand for labour.

Many face seasonal unemployment, particularly during non-harvesting seasons.

Farmers

These are individuals who own or lease land and engage in the cultivation of crops either by themselves or with the help of labourers.
