FROM A KINGDOM TO AN EMPIRE
The Mauryan Empire was founded by Chandragupta Maurya and later ruled by one of the greatest rulers in history, Ashoka.
Chandragupta was assisted by a wise man named Chanakya or Kautilya, whose ideas were compiled in a book called the Arthashastra.
The empire had several cities, including the capital Pataliputra, Taxila, and Ujjain.
Taxila served as a gateway to Central Asia, while Ujjain was strategically located on the route from north to south India.
