GLOBALISATION AND SOCIAL CHANGE
We can question whether globalisation is truly a new phenomenon if it is about interconnections on a global scale. Were India and other regions of the world not interacting with one another in the past?
1.Silk Route: India was a significant part of the ancient world trade through the Silk Route. This route connected India with major civilisations like China, Persia, Egypt, and Rome.
2.Historical Migrations: Over many years, people from various places came to India. They arrived as traders, conquerors, or as migrants looking for new places to live. This has resulted in India having a wide variety of cultures and family histories.
3.Global Interactions: Global interactions or even a global perspective isn’t a modern phenomenon. It existed even in ancient India.
1.Inception Of Modern Capitalism: Modern capitalism, which emerged during the colonial era, had an inherent global dimension. Colonisation was an integral part of this system, which needed capital, raw materials, markets, and a supporting global network.
2.Migration: One of the substantial human movements was the migration of Europeans to the Americas and Australia. This phase also saw the forced migration of indentured labourers from India to various parts of Asia, Africa, and the Americas.
