MINERAL AND ENERGY RESOURCES

TYPES OF MINERAL RESOURCES

Minerals can be categorised into two primary groups, namely metallics and non-metallics, based on their chemical and physical properties. These groups can be further classified as outlined below:

Metallic Minerals

These minerals provide metals upon extraction and processing.

Examples include iron ore, copper, and gold.

They are subdivided into ferrous and non-ferrous minerals, depending on whether they contain iron or not.

Ferrous minerals contain iron (e.g., iron ore), while non-ferrous minerals do not (e.g., copper, bauxite).
