SOCIOLOGY AND SOCIETY
The concept of a ‘good job’ can differ based on cultural, social, and individual perspectives. For some, a good job could be one that offers a high salary. For others, job satisfaction, work-life balance, or social impact might be the determining factors.
‘Relevant society’ could refer to the social groups to which an individual most closely identifies or that most directly impact them. This could include family, local community, ethnic group, professional networks, or even online communities. It’s a fluid concept, especially in our increasingly globalised world.
Sociology examines the structures and systems that influence individual choices and outcomes. It helps us understand how personal problems, like career choices, can be linked to larger public and systemic issues. This way, sociology not only identifies the various factors affecting an issue but can also offer empirical ways to study and possibly rectify these issues.
Sociology originated in a Western context but has global implications. Understanding its history can help in understanding the evolution of social theories and perspectives. For instance, early sociological theories were heavily influenced by the Industrial Revolution and urbanisation.
