Background and Education

1.Birth and Lineage: Salim, later known as Jahangir, was born on August 30, 1569, to Akbar and a Rajput princess from Amber. His birth was highly celebrated, being the first surviving son of Akbar who had lost earlier children in infancy.

2.Education: Jahangir was well-educated under the supervision of several notable tutors including Abdur Rahim Khan, the son of Bairam Khan. His education covered Persian, Turki, Arabic, and Hindi, equipping him with the necessary skills for governance.

Early Administrative Roles

1.Introduction to Governance: Following the tradition of the Mughal dynasty, Jahangir was involved in military administration from a young age. In 1585, he was elevated to the rank of 12,000 in the imperial service.

2.Marriage: The same year, he married Man Bai, the daughter of Raja Bhagwandas of Amber. Jahangir also had multiple other marriages, which was customary for princes of his status.
