The Mughal Empire, which dominated the Indian subcontinent from the early 16th to the mid-19th century, featured a complex social structure influenced by factors like religion, occupation, and status. This hierarchy was highly stratified, with each group playing distinct roles in the empire's governance and society.

Top of the Hierarchy: The Mughal Emperors

1.Role and Perception: The emperors were seen as God's representatives on Earth, holding the supreme authority over the empire.

2.Central Authority: They not only ruled as sovereigns but also played key roles in cultural and societal development, influencing art, architecture, and the empire's overall administration.

Nobility: Mansabdars and Jagirdars

1.Mansabdars: Appointed directly by the emperor, mansabdars held military and administrative ranks (mansabs) that determined their salary and status within the social hierarchy.
