Introduction

The Indian Constitution contains several provisions specifically designed to protect and promote the interests of certain classes of citizens who may be socially, educationally, or economically disadvantaged. These provisions aim to ensure social justice, equality, and inclusivity by addressing historical injustices and providing opportunities for advancement. They include measures for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and other marginalized groups, ensuring their representation and participation in various aspects of public life. Part XVI and Articles 330 – 342 A deals with these provisions

Reservation of Seats

Scheduled Castes: Seats are reserved specifically for SCs in the Lok Sabha to ensure their representation.

Scheduled Tribes: Seats are reserved for STs, with specific provisions for STs in the autonomous districts of Assam. This acknowledges the unique needs of these communities and aims to ensure their voice in the legislative process.
