MAKING OF THE CONSTITUTION
Emergence of the Idea
The demand for a Constituent Assembly in India emerged in the early 20th century due to growing nationalism and the desire for self-rule.
The goal was to establish a body responsible for framing a constitution for an independent India.
This demand gained momentum in the 1930s and 1940s, driven by the Indian National Congress (INC) and other political entities.
Early Proposals
The concept of a Constituent Assembly was first proposed by M. N. Roy, a revolutionary and pioneer of the communist movement in India, in the 1930s.
The Indian National Congress, led by Jawaharlal Nehru, endorsed the idea in 1936.
