Ajanta Cave Paintings

Picture 1

The fifth-century CE paintings at Ajanta utilize outward projections to create a sense of depth and three-dimensionality. Lines in these paintings are clearly defined and rhythmic, contributing to a dynamic visual flow. The integration of body colour with these outer lines helps create a more volumetric effect, giving the figures a sense of fullness and weight.

Early Phase Paintings

The caves from the early phases also contain significant paintings.

1.Cave No. 10: The paintings here were added after the initial construction phase, as indicated by the plaster applied over earlier inscriptions.

2.Cave No. 9: Paintings in this cave were included in the original design and date back to the first century BCE.
