Overview

Introduction To The Harappan Civilization

The Harappan or the Indus-Saraswati Civilization, spanning from 3300 BC to 1500 BC, is one of the oldest known civilizations, marking a significant presence in the third millennium BC It covered an expansive area in present-day India and Pakistan, making it significantly larger than other contemporary Bronze Age civilizations.

Chronological Phases

1.Early Harappan Period (3300 BC-2600 BC): This phase represents the formative years, where the foundations of urban planning and culture were established.

2.Mature Harappan Period (2600 BC-2000 BC): Often regarded as the peak of the civilization, this period is characterized by advanced city planning, extensive trade networks, and developments in various arts and crafts.

3.Late Harappan Period (2000 BC-1500 BC): This final phase saw the gradual decline of urban centres and a shift towards rural settings.
