1.Active Global Engagement: India has actively participated in a wide range of international agreements, spanning across multilateral, regional, and bilateral frameworks. From trade and climate change to defence and security cooperation, India’s participation in these agreements reflects its growing global stature. India is a signatory to key multilateral agreements like the Paris Agreement on climate change, World Trade Organization (WTO) agreements, and regional agreements under ASEAN and BIMSTEC.
2.Bilateral Agreements: India has also signed numerous bilateral agreements, particularly in areas such as defence, trade, and technology cooperation. These include agreements with countries like the USA, Japan, Russia, and the EU. Examples include the India-US Civil Nuclear Agreement, India-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), and various defence-related agreements with Russia and Israel.
1.Strategic Interests: International agreements have played a critical role in advancing India’s strategic interests, especially in the context of security and defence. For instance, the Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA) and the Communications Compatibility and Security Agreement (COMCASA) with the USA have deepened defence cooperation and interoperability between the two countries. India’s Strategic Partnerships with countries like Russia, France, and Japan have enhanced its defence capabilities and technological edge.
2.Economic Growth: Agreements like ASEAN-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) have expanded India’s trade relations, boosted exports, and attracted foreign investment. These agreements have facilitated access to key markets, reduced tariffs, and enhanced cooperation in sectors like manufacturing, IT services, and energy.
3.Climate and Environmental Impact: India’s leadership in the Paris Agreement and its role in the International Solar Alliance (ISA) highlight its commitment to tackling climate change and promoting renewable energy. These agreements align with India’s efforts to transition to a sustainable and low-carbon economy, ensuring long-term energy security and environmental sustainability.
