NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR BCs

Introduction

The National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) is a constitutional body in India established under Article 338B of the Indian Constitution. The NCBC was initially established by the National Commission for Backward Classes Act, 1993, and later gained constitutional status through the 102nd Constitutional Amendment Act, 2018.

The main purpose of the NCBC is to address the issues and challenges faced by the Backward Classes (BCs), which include the Other Backward Classes (OBCs), in order to promote their social, educational, and economic development.

Creation of NCBC: There shall be a Commission for the socially and educationally backward classes known as the National Commission for Backward Classes. This Commission is dedicated to the protection, welfare, and development of SEBCs, ensuring their issues and concerns are addressed at the highest level of government.
