2020 ESSAY
Life, as a concept, is more than mere existence. The journey between being a human being—a biological entity—and being humane—a compassionate, morally upright, and empathetic individual—defines the essence of our evolution. Every person is born human by nature, but to become humane requires conscious effort, self-awareness, and ethical growth. The process of bridging this gap is shaped by experiences, values, relationships, and societal responsibilities.
Human Being: A human being refers to a member of the species Homo sapiens—rational and biological creatures defined by physical and mental capacities.
Being Humane: To be humane signifies possessing moral qualities like compassion, kindness, and an awareness of others’ pain. It means acting with empathy and understanding.
Being born human is accidental, but becoming humane is intentional. The transition involves a shift in mindset—from focusing on self-preservation and material pursuits to contributing to the well-being of others and society.
